Artist Feature: Greg Just, Just Turned

Greg Just is an artist from Blaine, MN and has been a woodworker most of his life. He learned basic skills from his father. Later in life, he started using a wood lathe. Today he has crafted a part time business called “Just Turned” and he takes great pride in what he makes and the customer service he provides.

Greg’s main focus is on functional household products with a wood lined travel mug as his primary product. He also makes cocktail shakers, wood bowls, peppermills, bottle stoppers. Greg tries to use reclaimed wood when he can and recycles it into a new item. For example, he will make peppermills from an old baseball bat.

While he mainly operates out of his basement with a small workshop, someday he hopes to have a standalone shop dedicated to his woodworking. Greg really has to optimize his space as he has 2 lathes, a table saw, a couple of sanders and a miter saw along with a lot of hand tools.

Greg is a multi-year winner of various ribbons at the Minnesota State Fair with his wood turned items. He has taught his son to turn and his son also has won multiple times at the Minnesota State Fair. Like father like son!

We carry quite a few pieces of Greg’s work at Minnesota Makers including the newest travel mugs with Minnesota and a loon laser engraved in them. All of his pieces combine beautiful woods with function for the lovely result of useful art.
