Abby Chapman, owner, creator and designer at raindrop paperie, makes handmade, meaningful greeting cards and paper goods out of Minneapolis, MN. Ever since she was a child, Abby has been a creative individual whether it was through Play-Doh, scrapbooking, or making arts and craft projects. With a background in art history and color theory, she strives to create fun and appealing color combinations within her card designs. As a true lover of snail mail, Abby believes that sending mail or a handwritten note is one of the best things you can do (and that people should really do it more often!) She started making cards as a way to tap into her creative side, and to save herself some time from going to the store for another card when a friend or family member’s birthday came around. It quickly grew into a passion of hers and raindrop paperie became a small business for Abby in August 2013. She has created hundreds of cards, as well as custom wedding invitations, baby shower invitations and baby announcement cards. Her cards often combine paper, ribbon and stickers to create unique designs.
Living in Minnesota, she is able to experience all four seasons (winter, spring, summer & fall) as well as so many wonderful natural areas within the state—all of which produce beautiful colors that she is able to admire through the changing leaves, the growing flowers and the numerous bodies of water. Since colors and patterns are so important in her raindrop paperie designs, she often gathers inspiration for her cards while out on a walk or spending time by a lake or the river. Being a Minnesotan has inspired one of her more popular designs, the MN Love Cards. She takes full pride in making these fun cards so others can send MN love out to those who are important in their lives. There is a vibrant and active creative community here in Minnesota as well, which encourages and inspires her to continue with her handmade cards.
Abby loves to create and plan different designs for her cards – she even very often will dream about card design! She believes that being a maker allows you to express yourself and put your thoughts, emotions and attitude into a product that is unique and one of a kind. Creating something taps into a place in your heart and your passion, a place that can’t always be seen. She truly takes a great amount of pride in the work that she does, and knowing that she is able to share this with others in a product that everyone can use is very exciting!
We have a wide variety of cards by Abby at Minnesota Makers. She was one of our first artists when we opened the shop. We love her cards and know you will love them as much as we do!
