Artist Feature: Al Walker, Savanna Woods

When he retired from the photo business after over 40 years, Al Walker decided to dive into his wood-working hobby and started Savanna Woods with his son Brett. Based out of his garage in Rogers, Al channels the woodworking skills that were passed down to him from his dad and mixes that with the new wonders of technology.

He started by making cutting boards and lazy Susans in beautiful striped patterns. And just to be clear, all his projects are not stained, he uses the beauty of the natural wood.

Cutting boards led to more custom work. Want a cutting board with a Minnesota on it? You betcha’ Al can do that!

Then came the games. As a family, the Walker’s love to play games so out of that came cribbage boards, tic-tac-toe boards, and the party approved horse race game.

He also has made intricate signs for people’s cabins up north (his favorite place to be) and even beer tap handles for local breweries.

Savanna Woods products make beautiful gifts that are sure to become family heirlooms. The pieces make lovely gifts for weddings, holidays, family, and friends. We carry a wide variety of Savanna Woods products at Minnesota Makers and we can’t wait to help you find the right keepsake gift!
